Portrait of a Victorian Soldier by Lowthian Bros., Grimsby c1890 – colourised.
An original carte de visite (CDV) portrait photograph by Lowthian Bros. of 134 Freeman Street, Grimsby.
The soldier has the helmet plate for the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. The Ox & Bucks were an old regiment, re-formed in 1881. The photo shows a private soldier holding a Pattern 1885 Martini-Henry rifle. The lower sleeve pattern indicates that the photo was taken around 1890.
With thanks to Les Emery for the identification of the uniform.
