Hydraulic accumulator tower, Grimsby Docks c1992.
To the west of the main Dock Tower stands this hydraulic accumulator tower which was built in 1892, some 40 years after the Dock Tower.
This accumulator tower was built to provide high-pressure hydraulic power to move the gates to the east and west locks to the Royal Dock and to power dockside machinery. It largely superseded the earlier Dock Tower. The tower is 78 feet tall and is built in a style which loosely resembles the Dock Tower which is 309 feet tall.
