J. W. Hardy was a very well known and prolific seaside photographer. He was in business through the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. His son took over in the 1950s. J. W. Hardy’s studio was on the seafront. In the 1930s, he took souvenir photos of holidaymakers walking along the promenade. His studio was at 52 St Peter’s Avenue from the 1930s. Hardy’s Studio was still there in the 1950s.
The reversed identification number ‘5397’ at the top was marked on the glass negative by the photographer.
