The crew of the Grimsby trawler ‘Fifinella’ GY.1038 by The P. & S. Photo Service c1937.
This is one of a series of wonderful photographs of trawler crews by The P. & S. Photo Service of 70 Freeman Street, Grimsby. P. & S. stands for Parker & Spyvee who had four dispensing chemists shops in Grimsby. Tom Parker was the pharmacist and Rex Spyvee looked after the photography side of the business.
GY.1038 ‘Fifinella’ was built in Selby in 1916 for the Consolidated Steam Fishing & Ice Co. (Grimsby) Ltd. and named after a racehorse. She served as a minesweeper during WW1. ‘Fifinella’ was scrapped in 1937.
Interestingly, there are three ladies in this crew. We have had an email from Tracie informing us that the skipper here is her great grandfather, Fred Chatten (1893-1954). The three ladies are his daughters, Edie (Tracie’s grandmother, born 1915), Rose (born 1918) and Irene (born 1924).
Many thanks to Tracie for making this photo come alive.
