Bargate Cottages, Grimsby with flags c1930s.

Grimsby

An original old photo probably taken c1930s. (Not a postcard.) The location is still very recognisable today.

The photo was taken before the properties were painted black and white. The property on the left (now No. 43) still has old pantiles in this picture. The house with the flags is now No. 45. Why were the flags out?

On the right of the picture is the building that is now The Wheatsheaf. In the 1920s, it was the Grimsby High School for Girls (Miss A. W. Squance B.A., headmistress). Before that, it was Bank House, a private residence. William Bennett J.P. lived there in 1909.
