Flottergate Primitive Methodist Sunday School Institute Prize 1906.

Ephemera

Florrie Gooseman won a special prize for attendance January – June 1906. Gooseman appears to be a surname with a relatively high concentration in the Grimsby area. Does anyone have Florrie in their family tree?

The portrait attached to this certificate, behind protective paper, is of J. A. Garfield. James Abram Garfield was (November 19, 1831 – September 19, 1881) was the 20th president of the United States, serving from March to September 1881. He was assassinated.

Flottergate Primitive Methodist Church opened on 23 May 1880 and closed on 15 November 1970. It was demolished soon afterwards. The Methodist Church was an impressive building. Another of Grimsby’s former treasures which has gone.
