Sketch of the Mermaid Restaurant, Cleethorpes; from a c1989 advertisement.
Built in 1883 by the railway company MS&LR, the Mermaid Restaurant was originally the rest room for passengers using the nearby railway station. The Mermaid is a fine example of cast iron seaside/railway architecture and is one of a kind. The cast iron work is currently undergoing vital restoration work away from Cleethorpes (February 2025).
This c1988/1989 sketch is from an advertisement announcing “Cleethorpes’ Newest Restaurant serving Traditional Food in Elegant Surroundings Besides Cleethorpes Station”.
