Cleethorpes

A plate from a small, Victorian, souvenir album by Albert Gait. The image is by Rock & Co. of London.

An early station. The station opened on Easter Monday, 6 April 1863 when the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway extended the line from Grimsby into the town. Today’s Cleethorpes Station buildings and clock tower were constructed in 1884.

Note that Cleethorpes was, at this time, sometimes spelt without the ‘s’.
