Thatched cottages in Yard Lane, Humberston c1910.

An original, unposted photographic postcard by the photographer Joseph Samuel Bullen. An Irishman, Bullen worked in Grimsby and Louth from c1905 until c1937. His studios were in Freeman Street and later in Welholme Road.

This looks to be a pair of cottages rather than a single dwelling. The lady on the right is feeding her chickens whilst her dog looks on.

The photo may have been taken on a Monday as there is a good line of washing out!

Yard Lane is in the south of the village on the road to Tetney. Note the early spelling of Humberston with the ‘e’.

A lovely scene with the reflection of the cottages in the pond.
