Ex-Grimsby tug ‘Brenda Fisher’ (as ‘Eta’) awaiting demolition in 1987.
An original photograph taken at Lowestoft on 12th March 1987.
‘Brenda Fisher’ was launched at Harkers Shipyard, Knottingley in 1955. The tug was lunched by Brenda Fisher herself, a famous long-distance swimmer from Grimsby. In 1951 she broke the women’s world record for swimming the English Channel. Brenda is the daughter of a Grimsby trawler skipper.
The ‘Brenda Fisher’ spent her final years in the 1980s at Lowestoft. She was renamed ‘Eta’. She was scrapped in 1987. The photo shows the sad end of a famous Grimsby workhorse!
