Arthur Bateman (1908-1979) was born in Grimsby. He played for Grimsby Town from 1927 until 1933. He is best remembered for his five-year spell in the Football League with Brentford, where he was captain.
Arthur returned to Grimsby and joined the police. He retired in 1969 when he was a detective inspector.
