South Beach & Pier Entrance, Cleethorpes (Children’s Corner) c1920s.
An original, “Sepia” Style pictorial postcard printed and published by J. Salmon of Sevenoaks, Kent. J. Salmon became a limited company in 1930 which helps to date this card to the mid to late 1920’s.
The image shows a close up of how the entrance to the pier looked before the raised walkway was altered in the mid 1930’s as well as lots of children enjoying themselves in the area known as ‘Children’s Corner’. Local photographer J. W. Hardy’s hut can be seen on the beach with its big advert on the roof ‘Hardy’s Holiday Snaps’. Many existing photos show holidaymakers sitting in the deckchairs by the hut. J. W. Hardy also took photos of children (and adults) on donkeys and families walking on the promenade and going on charabanc outings as well as portraits in his studios just down the road.
