An original, 13 inches high figurine of unknown composition made to promote marmalade. Around the base, it says “Famous for fine Quality”.

Thomas Tickler’s recipe for ‘Nell Gwyn’ marmalade dates back to 1887. Tickler’s recipes still exist today. ‘Nell Gwyn’ marmalade was later sold by Crosbie’s, a company with links to Tickler’s. Tickler’s and Crosbie’s jams were advertised together in a 1928 German newspaper, Lübecker Volksbote.

Many thanks to Christine Little for the statuette. Christine’s father, John Reynolds, was Company Secretery at Tickler’s, the once-famous jam and preserves factory.
