The lighting and focusing are wonderful. Note, especially, the lighting on the subject’s hair, face and the hand behind the book.

Edwin Noble’s studio was at 233 Freeman Street, Grimsby. He appears to have been in business from the 1890s until the 1930s. He died in 1948.
