Dorothy’s Café, Grimsby Docks c1940s.

Grimsby Fish Docks

From a negative.

The location is near the the old lock pits and the Dock Master’s home.

As well as the café, Edward Lowe Salsbury’s stores can be seen. He was a grocer and a member of the Salsbury family who were well known on the Docks. The family moved up from Brixham in Devon and set up businesses in Grimsby. They were provision merchants and serviced the requirements of trawlers and general shipping. Their cafés were famous too.

The J. S. Doig (Grimsby) Ltd. advertisement is impressive.
