A house fire in Mathews Street, Cleethorpes c1939 Photos 1 & 2.

We believe the fire was at No. 11, looking towards Lestrange Street.
Jeanne’s description: “Our house on fire in Mathews Street, Cleethorpes. It must have at the beginning of the war as all the metal railings between the gardens were soon to be sawn down to be sent away for the use of making ammunitions etc. I remember the little metal stumps on the walls. Look at the fire engine. One of the firemen must have been a volunteer as he has his flat cap, etc. on! My parents had gone to Hull for the day and left a light on in the bedroom. The bulb dropped on the bed and set it on fire.”
