Was there really a connection between this studio and the West End of London?

The photographer is likely to have been William Charles Evans (1862-1938) who is buried in Scartho Road Cemetery. His wife, Maud Annie Evans (1884-1955), was also a photographer.

William Charles Evans married Maude Annie Lotherington in Kensington, London in 1928. So, there really is a London connection (although Maud was from Hull)!
