Grimsby Commercial Docks

Built in 1852 to a height of 309 feet (94.2 m). It is believed that approximately 1 million bricks were used to build the Tower. The bricks were made on site from clay dug from the adjoining marsh.

The Dock Tower was based, by the designer James William Wild, on the Palazzo Pubblico (town hall) Tower in Siena, Tuscany in Italy.

Queen Victoria came with Prince Albert to visit the dock and officially open the tower on 13th October, 1854. Apparently, Prince Albert and the Princess Royal ascended the tower in the wooden lift accompanied by James Meadows Rendel, the civil engineer in charge of construction of the Royal Dock.

The Dock Tower was designated a Grade I Listed Building on 28th April 1972.
