County courthouse and police station and later the Coroner’s courthouse. Designed by the Grimsby architect Herbert C. Scaping of Grimsby and built in 1902 for Lindsey County Court. Now Grade II Listed.
Note the terracotta frieze with ribbon-style lettering “COUNTY POLICE”.
Bates & Mountain, solicitors, are now located here, ‘The Old Court House’, 42 Brighowgate.
This postcard was posted in Grimsby by ”a Mysterious friend Hititity PiP. Pip. TuT. TuT.” on 30th October 1905. The recipient was Miss Gladys Lawrence, 57 Weelsby Street, Grimsby.
Gladys was only a baby at the time. Her father was a buoymaker from Gravesend in Kent and living at 57 Weelsby Street.
