Cleethorpes Borough Council Shield after 1974.

Cleethorpes

A hand-painted shield. The arms were officially granted in 1974.

The ship represents the area’s ports and the beehive wheatsheaves represent the agriculture in this area.

The crest is a pelican, from the arms of the Earl of Yarborough. On the sinister side is a Norseman holding a shield and on the dexter side is a Cleethorpes fisherman holding a net.

The blue and the gold represents the sea and sand.

The fisherman is said to be Levi Stephenson, a significant Cleethorpes character from the 1850s.
