The ‘Flower Cottages’ on Waltham Road, Scartho c1914.

An original, posted, real photographic postcard by ‘JAY EM JAY’ SERIES GY., the trade mark of Jackson & Son, Publishers, Grimsby.

The ‘Flower Cottages’ at 74-100, Waltham Road, Scartho were built in 1903 on land belonging to Thomas Baskcomb. They were designed by the Grimsby architect Herbert Charles Scaping. The names of the fourteen cottages are: Marigold, Pink, Carnation, Aster, Primrose, Daisy, Violet, Viola, Pansy, Iris, Tulip, Hyacinth, Crocus and Snowdrop.

The postcard was posted in Scartho on 2nd April 1914 by ‘Onions’. The recipient was Miss E. M. ?, 192 Wellington Street, Grimsby. The message reads. “One more from the album. Love from Onions >>>-X->.”
