An original, unposted photographic postcard by H. G. Glen & Co., 15 Boar Lane Chambers, Leeds.

The red arrow highlights the coastal erosion which almost reached the buildings along Sea Bank Road before the new prom was completed in 1906 and the name of the road was changed to Kingsway.

William Cronshaw (1855-1928) was the licensee of the Lifeboat Hotel at the time. He was born in Oswaldtwistle and moved from the Manchester area to Cleethorpes in the early years of the 20th century. His second wife was Maria Cronshaw. It’s likely that William Cronshqw is one of the two gentlemen outside The Lifeboat Hotel.

‘The Lifeboat’ was demolished in 1999/2000 and replaced by luxury apartments known as ‘The Waterfront’. ‘The Lifeboat’ used to be the meeting point for those going to a concert at The Winter Gardens.

The shop on the corner of Haigh Street is H. Jowett, Grocer & Provision Dealer, later Chivers & Son, grocers, 34 Kingsway etc. Now a private house.

Note: The board by the window states that The Lifeboat Hotel sells Allsopp’s Burton ales, stout and lager as well as wines and spirits.
