This No. 23 tram is probably pictured outside Pelham Road depot, Cleethorpes.
The postcard was posted in Grimsby in 1904. (The exact date is unreadable.). The recipient was Miss C.(or E.) Blanchard of 13 Gladstone Terrace, Courtney Street, Hull. This was Clarice Clark or Emily May Blanchard, daughters of William John Blanchard, an oil miller born in Cleethorpes.
The postcard message reads, ” Pleased to tell you that Mother has got out of the Infirmary but don’t know whether she has to go back or not. So don’t know scarcely when we shall get to Hull again. Wish to see you again before long. Hoping you have enjoyed yourself over the Fair. Yours Pinces U C. (?)”.
Note: The name of the manager of the Tramways is written on the tram i.e. H. L. White. Henry Louis White, of “Southampton House”, Pelham Road, Cleethorpes was born in London c1860. He was still manager in the 1920s.
