The key was presented to General Sir Ian Hamilton as a momento (memento) of the opening of the club on 5th May 1923. The engraved key was bought from F. Lister, jeweller & silversmith, 11 Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes.

Where was the club and when did it close?

Sir Ian Standish Monteith Hamilton, GCB, GCMG, DSO, TD (1853-1947) was a British Army officer. He commanded the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in the Gallipoli Campaign of World War One. Later in life, he was a leading figure in the British Legion organisation.
