Grimsby

An original, aerial photograph taken by Eric Green, Press-Photographer, 9 Wintringham Road, Grimsby. This is a view of The Vicarage from the south-west.

Canon Algernon Augustus Markham (1869 – 1949) was the Rural Dean of Grimsby and Cleethorpes from 1913 until 1928. This reverse of this photograph is annotated with “With love from all the Markhams”. The Markhams must have obtained this photo to give it to somebody around a decade after they left Grimsby for Grantham and then Stoke Rochford.

Built in 1848, St James Vicarage is now a Grade II Listed Building. It is currently used as offices.

Eric Stanley Green was born in Grimsby on 17th September 1905. He worked as a fish packer and then joined the R.A.F. from 1929 until at least 1932. He married Daisy E. Wood in Grimsby in 1930. Eric died in in Grimsby in 1954. Daisy died in 1999. Eric and Daisy had a son, Eric J. Green born in Sleaford in 1931. Son Eric J. was also a photographer working from 9 Wintringham Road.
